On Tuesday, Bryce Harper will make his first trip to Nationals Park since joining the Phillies. Harper, as you have probably heard, signed a 13-year, $330 million deal with the Phillies after an absurdly quiet free agency. He got booed in his Phillies debut but has hit two dingers since.
Despite the Nationals brass not making a serious effort to keep the superstar in D.C., Harper will probably be greeted to a bitter reception in his first series back. That’s how it works in sports.
Just look at how D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser welcomed Harper back to D.C. on Monday. She compared him to Benedict Arnold. You know, infamous Revolutionary War-era traitor Benedict Arnold.

Yeah, the tweet was extremely petty. But Bowser needs to stand by the tweet. You can’t just tweet an edited photo of Bryce Harper being compared to a notorious traitor and just delete it like nobody was going to notice. That’s bad form.
If that tweet was any indication, Nationals fans will be completely rational when it comes to Bryce Harper and the Phillies. Yeah, this won’t get out of hand at all.
