Aug. 28--Diane Nelson, who oversees Warner Bros.' DC comics and games division, is expanding her role in the Burbank studio.
Nelson was been tapped to head up the studio's consumer products division, in addition to her other duties. She takes over from Brad Globe, who is stepping down in the spring after having served as president of consumer products since 2005.
Nelson's new role reflects an effort to more closely integrate the studio's DC Entertainment and lucrative video games division with retail sales, company executives said.
"With more and more of our consumer products business being directly driven by DC characters and storylines, a closer alignment of the divisions makes a lot of sense for us," Warner Bros. Chief Executive Kevin Tsujihara said in a statement.
Nelson currently oversees a portfolio of characters that includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Sandman. As president Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, she also steers the development of console and mobile games, including those based on DC characters.
A former executive at Walt Disney Records, Nelson joined Warner Bros. in 1996 as director of worldwide corporate promotions.
For more than a decade, Globe led the licensing and retail strategy for the company's biggest franchises, including "Harry Potter." More recently, he helped develop "DC Super Hero Girls," the first superhero franchise for girls. Prior to joining Warner Bros. he headed the consumer products business for DreamWorks SKG.
Tsujihara thanked Globe for his contributions to Warner Bros, calling him "among the most talented and respected licensing executives in the business."
