Dbeibah Says Elections Only Way to Resolve Libya Crisis

Head of the interim Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah again clung on to power, saying that parliamentary and presidential elections were the only way to resolve the crisis in the country.

During a visit to the western city of Misrata, he said: "No Geneva, no Paris. All roads and doors have been shut. There can only be a return to the people so that they can choose who they want."

His remarks were interpreted as an indirect response to the dialogue call made by rival prime minister Fathi Bashagha, who was named by the east-based parliament in February.

Dbeibah reiterated his commitment to holding parliamentary elections, saying they were "easy" and their laws already in place.

"We will hold elections," he vowed in response to opponents.

Moreover, he hailed Misrata for standing against "projects of war and division", calling on its people to support the elections.
