Dazzling Christmas tractor convoy travelling through Liverpool this weekend

More than 100 tractors will take to the streets of Liverpool this weekend to bring Christmas cheer to Merseyside and raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Last year, over 80 tractors took part in the procession and raised more than £43,000 for the hospital - much more than the £5,000 target.

This year, 110 tractors are expected to take part, on a journey that will take in the city centre and travel through parts of north and south Liverpool.

The vehicles will be festively decorated in lights and tinsel, and some of the tractors at last year's event even had snowmen and reindeers on them. The founder of the Christmas tractor convoy is local farmer Olly Harrison who was inspired by a similar event that took place on the Isle of Man.

Olly told the ECHO: "It's going to be bigger and better this year. Charities have taken a hammering due to covid so are in desperate need of support. It will also bring joy to the kids who are in Alder Hey and can watch the tractors go past."

The event is also supporting Fans Supporting Food Banks and the convoy will drop off donations at Stanley Park along the way.

The Liverpool tractor convoy will set off at 6.15pm in Tarbock Green and is due to go past Alder Hey at around 7pm, before arriving into the city centre between 7.45pm and 8.15pm. The whole journey is expected to take around three hours, though timings are approximate.

People wanting to make a donation can do so on the Festive Farmers Just Giving page or by texting TRACTOR to 70450.
