Daytrippers from Cheshire turn up in North Wales in a minibus... and get slapped with fines by police

A group of daytrippers from Cheshire turned up in North Wales this afternoon on a minibus - and were slapped with fines by police.

The group from Crewe arrived by the waterfront in Rhyl on Sunday afternoon before police got involved.

As they returned to their vehicles, officers approached, a witness told North Wales Live.

The eyewitness said the police issued them all with fines for breaching lockdown restrictions.

In a separate incident, a tourist drove from Birmingham to Gwynedd for a 'beach day' - but ended up getting arrested.

The driver set off from the West Midlands on Sunday and was travelling through Machynlleth when they were stopped by officers from North Wales Police.

They ended up getting arrested for driving without insurance or a licence, as well as for drug driving and possession of cannabis.

A spokesman for the force's roads policing unit posted on Twitter: "Stopped this vehicle near Machynlleth this afternoon.

"They had travelled from Birmingham area for a beach day.

"Driver arrested for having no licence or insurance, drug driving (tested positive for cannabis) and possession of cannabis.

"Vehicle seized."
