Dayton wins 20th consecutive game, caps undefeated run through Atlantic 10

DAYTON, Ohio _ The Dayton Flyers blitzed George Washington in the second half on their way to a 76-51 victory Saturday night at UD Arena, capping an 18-0 run through the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule.

Obi Toppin had 27 points, including several highlight-reel dunks in the second half, and Jalen Crutcher added 21 as the Flyers outscored the Colonials, 50-26, in the second half.

Here's what Dayton accomplished in its 31st game of the season:

_ The Flyers (29-2) tied the school record for consecutive victories. The 1951-52 team also won 20 games from January through March.

_ The Flyers set the school record for victories in a season, passing the 1951-52 team that finished 28-5.

_ Dayton now has the third-longest winning streak, in one season, in Atlantic 10 history.

Dayton had already clinched the A-10 regular-season championship and the top seed in the conference tournament. It will play in the quarterfinals at noon Friday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

George Washington made six 3-pointers in the first half to hang with the third-ranked Flyers, who took a 26-25 halftime lead in the final game of the regular season.

Dayton led 12-8. Then the Colonials went on an 11-0 run. Dayton answered with a 10-0 run.

Each team shot 38% from the field in the first half. GW made 6 of 16 3-pointers. Dayton made 3 of 9.

Toppin scored Dayton's first five points and led Dayton with 11 points at halftime. Ibi Watson scored six of his nine points in the half.

Jamison Battle scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the half for GW and made 3 of 8 3-pointers.

Dayton has led or been tied at halftime in all but two games this season.

Dayton honored seniors Ryan Mikesell and Trey Landers before the game. This is their final home game. Student managers Henry Stark, Alex Reilly and Jack Walsh were also honored.
