CHICAGO _ Colorado's D'Shawn Schwartz made a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to beat the No. 13 Dayton Flyers, 78-76, on Saturday in the Chicago Legends event at the United Center.
Dayton's Jalen Crutcher put Dayton ahead on a layup with 10 seconds left. Colorado did not call time out. Dayton sent three defenders at Tyler Bey as he worked in the post, but he passed out to Schwartz, who was wide open. There was not a defender within 10 feet as he made the shot.
Dayton fell to 9-2 with its second overtime loss. It lost, 90-84, to Kansas in the Maui Invitational.
Dayton trailed for most of the second half but tied the game late on a 3-pointer by Obi Toppin, who had missed his first five 3-pointers, including one on the previous possession.
Dayton took a 74-71 lead with 1:44 to go on a basket by Ibi Watson but then gave up three straight points. The Flyers didn't lead again until the go-ahead layup by Crutcher, who led the team with 19 points.
Toppin scored 17 points. Rodney Chatman had 12 points.
Former Dayton recruit McKinley Wright with 29 points on 10-of-22 shooting. Schwartz made 5 of 7 3-pointers.
The Flyers shot 50%, while the Buffaloes shot 40%. Colorado outscored Dayton 17-5 at the free-throw line.
Chatman hit a short jump shot in the final seconds of the first half, giving the Flyers a 36-32 halftime lead.
Chatman led the Flyers with 12 points in the half, making 5 of 8 field goals. Watson scored seven. Toppin had six.
Dayton led from the start after opening the game with a 19-5 run in the first six minutes. The Buffaloes answered with a 14-2 run in the next six minutes.
Wright, who signed with Dayton but changed his mind when Archie Miller left for Indiana, led Colorado with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting in the first half. Dayton fans booed him every time he touched the ball in the opening minutes.
In the first half, Dayton shot 57.1% and made 4 of 9 3-pointers Colorado shot 42.9% and made 3 of 11 3-pointers but grabbed six offensive rebounds and scored eight second-chance points. Colorado outscored Dayton 5-0 at the free-throw line.
