Dayton-area victims died from gunshot wounds, final autopsies confirm

DAYTON, Ohio _ Final autopsy results released Friday confirmed that the nine people killed in the Oregon District in August died from gunshot wounds.

Three victims, including the shooter's sister, were shot once. Most of the victims were shot multiple times, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

The shooter, 24 year-old Connor Betts, opened fire on a crowd of people in the Oregon District shortly after 1 a.m. Aug. 4.

He killed nine people and injured 27 others. Lois Oglesby, Megan Betts, Nicholas Cumer, Logan Turner, Thomas McNichols, Derrick Fudge, Monica Brickhouse, Saeed Saleh and Beatrice Warren-Curtis died in the shooting. All of their deaths were ruled homicides.

Dayton police fired back at Betts, ending the shooting less than a minute after it started. Betts was shot nearly 30 times and had 52 wounds, including entry and exit wounds.

Betts was able to shoot all nine of the victims a total of about 30 times in 32 seconds.

Dayton police shot two of the victims, but the coroner said their wounds came after they already were shot by Betts.

The final autopsy reports confirm previous reporting by The Dayton Daily News, such as Betts had cocaine, alcohol and Xanax in his system when he died.
