Days of severe delays for drivers due to roadworks on main A60 route through Ruddington

Drivers heading through Ruddington on the main A60 Loughborough Road are facing severe delays due to emergency roadworks being carried out by electricity company Western Power Distribution.

The work is taking place near the petrol station between the junctions with Easthorpe Street and Ashworth Avenue.

It started on the morning of Tuesday, December 10, and is not scheduled to be completed until Monday December 16.

Western Power Distribution is carrying out emergency repairs to a cable and there are 24-hour temporary two-way traffic signals in use.

Motorists have reported long delays on the A60, with traffic backing up as far as Bunny Hill to the south during the morning rush hour.

There has also been significant congestion in Ruddington as drivers seek alternative routes, while nearby villages such as Plumtree have also been affected.

Meanwhile, Nottingham City Transport has warned of delays to its Green 10, 10C and 10X services, especially at peak times.

A Western Power Distribution spokesman said: "There is an underground cable fault which we are in the process of repairing. It should be completed today [Tuesday], but we then have to make the road good."

He said the company was aiming to complete the work on Monday, December 16, but added: "If we can do it earlier than that, we will. We always make our best efforts to reopen the road as soon as possible."
