Days of Our Lives star Judi Evans 'nearly had both legs amputated' after contracting coronavirus

Judi Evans, the actor best known for her role in the US soap Days of Our Lives, has contracted coronavirus.

Following a horse-riding accident, Evans was hospitalised, and has reportedly come close to having both her legs amputated after being infected with Covid-19 while in hospital.

Speaking on Good Morning America, the actor recalled: “My fever started spiking, and I said, ‘Can we test me for Covid?’, because they had taken me down a few times for tests without a mask on. And they did, and it came back positive.”

Her representative, Howie Tiger Simon, shared a post on Facebook on 8 June with details of Evans’ condition.

“She contracted Covid-19 while [in hospital],” he wrote, ”and she had what is known as the Covid blood clots in her legs and she nearly had both legs amputated on two different occasions.”

“She had mild symptoms – fever, aches, a cough and the blood clots. On top of everything, when she went into surgery on one of her legs, they forgot to numb the leg and cut into her leg while she was fully conscious with no numbing of the area!”

Evans has starred on Days of Our Lives since 1986, playing Adrienne Johnson and, occasionally, Bonnie Lockhart.

According to Soap Opera Digest, Evans suffered the initial accident while riding a trail in Los Angeles. Falling backwards off a horse, the actor suffered a broken collarbone, broken ribs, two chipped vertebrae and a collapsed lung.

After an outpouring of support from fans, Simon posted an update to Facebook which shows Evans smiling in bed, holding up a handwritten message that reads: “Thank you! Your love and prayers and support have meant the world to me!!”
