Four days after Julian Castro ended his presidential campaign, the Texan on Monday endorsed Elizabeth Warren in her bid for the White House.
"Today I'm proud to endorse @ewarren for president," Castro, a former San Antonio mayor and former U.S. housing secretary, tweeted. "Elizabeth and I share a vision of America where everyone counts. An America where people _ not the wealthy or well-connected _ are put first. I'm proud to join her in the fight for big, structural change."
Castro will join Warren at rally in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, according to his campaign.
His endorsement of Warren doesn't come as a surprise, but it ramps up speculation that Castro could be on Warren's vice presidential short list. The two often praised each other on the campaign trail.
"You've been a powerful voice for bold, progressive change and I'm honored to have your support," Warren tweeted to Castro. "Together, we'll fight to make sure every single family in America has a path to opportunity."
Castro, the remaining in the Democratic presidential race, ended his White House bid on Thursday after struggling for months to gain footing in national polls and failed to qualify for the past two debates.
