Dayot Upamecano 'won't be sold in January' amid Manchester United links and more transfer rumours

RB Leipzig have no interest in selling star defender Dayot Upamecano this month, amid Manchester United's interest, and more transfer rumours.

M.E.N. Sport understands that United are looking to make four new signings in 2021 and, as well as a right-winger, right-back and defensive-midfielder, are hoping to bring in a new centre-back to sure up their back-line.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are enjoying a brilliant run of form, they remain fragile at the back and have conceded more goals than any other side in the top 10.

Following Timothy Fosu-Mensah's move to Bayer Leverkusen and the potential departures of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones this year, spending on a new centre-back can be easily justified.

United v Liverpool title race

Brighton's Ben White has been scouted and the club have long admired Real Madrid's Raphael Varane, but Upamecano has emerged as an interesting option after his rise to one of Europe's best central defenders.

The Frenchman played a crucial role in Leipzig reaching the Champions League semi-final for the first time in their history last season and is attracting interest from several top clubs.

However, according to the Guardian, the Bundesliga side are 'not considering' selling Upamecano in January, even if they could get more for him now than in the summer.

It's reported that a release clause in the 22-year-old's contract becomes active in at the end of the season which could see him leave for just €42m (£37.4m).

With the fee being so much less than his market value, it's claimed, that some clubs have enquired as to whether Leipzig would be open to selling this winter instead.

However, the report explains, the club have no intention of letting one of their most important players leave half-way through a season in which they are still in a title race with Bayern Munich and through to the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

It's added that Liverpool, Chelsea and Bayern are also interested.

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard will receive a loan offer from French side Nice next week, according to  Sky Sports.

They suggest initial talks have been held over a deal with a loan offer set to be formally made in the coming days.

Lingard has made just three appearances for United this season, with none of them coming in the Premier League, but the club still decided to extend his contract by a further year.
