Dayot Upamecano transfer stance amid interest from Arsenal and Manchester United

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano wants to move to the Premier League amid reported interest from Arsenal, according to reports.

The Gunners are keen to bolster their centre-back options and Upamecano could be looked at by Mikel Arteta.

The French defender has established himself as one of the top talents in Europe after moving to Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in January 2017.

The 22-year-old has since been linked with a move to the Gunners, as well as Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. According to German football transfer expert Jan Aage Fjortoft, Upamecano wants to move to England - and Arsenal are in for him.

However, there will be no deal in the upcoming January transfer window, he has claimed on Twitter, but "the ball will start rolling" next summer.

A move to the Premier League is not definite, though, with German giants Bayern Munich believed to be leading the race to sign Upamecano.

According to talkSPORT, the Frenchman has a £38m release clause, but it only becomes active at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Upamecano only signed a new contract with Leipzig over the summer, but is already being linked with an exit from the German outfit. The centre-back said earlier this year: “I extended my contract with Leipzig because I feel good with my team-mates.

“My coach is giving me confidence. He’s learning as well, but he gives me confidence and it improves my level. I’ve been in Leipzig for more than three years, I feel good. I’ve been in demand, I talked to some clubs, it’s true, but I’m not in a hurry. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

As it stands, Arteta has David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi, William Saliba, Pablo Mari, Gabriel Magalhaes, Sokratis, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers as his centre-back options.
