Dayot Upamecano transfer decision set for January as Premier League giants prepare for signing battle

In-demand Dayot Upamecano's future with RB Leipzig could be made in January with a host of clubs set to move if he becomes available - according to a report.

The 22-year-old is regarded by many as the finest young defender in world football and the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester CIty are understood to be long-term admirers of the France international.

Upamecano has a buyout clause of around £40m and he added to his burgeoning reputation with a host of eye-catching displays for Leipzig as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

They held firm amid serious interest but respected German outlet Bild now state that a shift in approach could be coming for the Bundesliga title contenders for a player who remains tied down until the summer of 2023.

The newspaper's transfer expert Christian Falk said: "The decision about his future could be made in January. then there should be the first offers from the interested Premiere League Clubs (release clause: 45 million Euros).

"He is currently too expensive for Bayern Munich."

Liverpool are monitoring defensive reinforcements with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez long-term absentees but it's understood Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield board are in no rush to make a move when the January window opens.
