Arsenal and Chelsea have been put on alert in regards to the future of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
The highly-rated centre-back was heavily linked with a move to north London ahead of the summer transfer window, but ended up staying put after signing a new contract to end such speculation.
"I feel right at home here in Leipzig - the overall package is perfect," he told the club's official website. "We had good conversations with Oliver Mintzlaff, Markus Krosche, and Julian Nagelsmann, which showed to me that extending my contract was the right decision for me to make.
"Our young and hungry team is part of an ambitious club.
"I want to take the next step with Leipzig and reach our aims, because I'm convinced by the way we play our football.
"I have been in Leipzig for over three years and I have continued to improve alongside the team's development. I want to carry on developing personally, and I think Julian Nagelsmann is a coach that can bring me to the next level."
After suffering a blow in their attempts to land the 21-year-old, Mikel Arteta's side moved for Gabriel Magalhaes to bolster their back-line for the season.
Upamecano's contract at Leipzig is set to run to 2023 and according to Kicker, his €42 million (£37m) release clause will be active from next summer.
That may alert Arsenal who could be on the market for another central defender at the end of the season with Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis expected to depart when their contracts expire.
With that said, the Gunners could face strong competition from Chelsea.
The Blues were extremely active in the summer window as they signed Thiago Silva on a free following his release from Paris Saint-Germain and also snapped up Malang Sarr as one for the future.
Yet, they too have been linked with Upamecano and could be keen on a deal to reunite him with Timo Werner.
And latest reports coming out of Germany should alert the two London clubs.
Bild claim Upamecano is currently too expensive for Bayern Munich, and that a decision regarding his future could be made as early as the January transfer window.
This could be good news for Arsenal, Chelsea as well as Manchester United who have also been tipped to make a move for the centre-back.
