Dayot Upamecano agent issues transfer update amid Manchester United and Man City links

Dayot Upamecano’s agent says a summer move is unlikely amid reports linking him with both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Upamecano is believed to be attracting a lot of interest ahead of the transfer window after another impressive season for RB Leipzig in Germany.

The 21-year-old has made 29 appearances this season after returning from a knee injury to fire his side up to third in the Bundesliga and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Upamecano fits the transfer brief held by United as one of the brightest young talents in European football, although the MEN understands United are not prioritising a central-defensive addition.

City's need for a new defender is far more pressing after a campaign in which they have struggled for stability in their back line.

However, Upamecano's agent, Volker Struth, has cast doubt on a summer move by suggesting very few sides will actually be able to afford his client as a result of the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I don’t believe large transfers will take place this summer,” Struth told German outlet Sport 1. “And I think Upamecano is a player who will demand a large fee.

“So the statement has already been made.”
