Daylight police pursuit through Lake Macquarie ends with charges

A MAN who allegedly led police on a pursuit through Lake Macquarie in a stolen car on Thursday has been charged with several offences.

Police were patrolling on Dora Street at Morisset about 9.15am when they saw a car with two different registration plates.

Officers pulled the vehicle over. It drove away a short time later and they gave chase to Lake Munmorah, where the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.

The vehicle was located a short time later after police were informed it had entered a fire trail between Nords Wharf and Gwandalan.

Police watched it from a distance until it stopped outside a Narara home, where they arrested a 34-year-old man.

It is alleged that a search of the man found methamphetamine, a knife, a key to the allegedly stolen vehicle and a Range Rover key.

Lake Macquarie police also searched the home, where they will allege they found stolen items and a spring-assisted knife.

The 34-year-old was taken to Toronto police station and charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company, break and enter, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of unlawfully possess number plates, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (2nd offence), police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously (2nd offence), and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

He will face Gosford Local Court on Friday.
