Day before SC hearing, video calls farmers back to Delhi

BATHINDA: Betraying jitters on the eve of Supreme Court hearing, the farmer unions on Tuesday evening released a video that called prortesters back to the Delhi borders in large numbers, even if they had to abandon their crop.

They said this was to stop the government from making adverse comments in the court. Farmer unionist Jagmohan Singh told TOI: “There is a possibility that nothing adverse is said but we can’t take any risk. Adquate mobilisation and famers’ presence in Delhi will block this move, if they make it.” Farmer unionists Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Ravi Azad recorded these video appeals.

Agitation’s IT cell, Tikri Updates, tried to start a ‘Dilli Chalo’ twitter trend overnight and asked WhatsApp users to take tractor, car, or whatever, but reach the Delhi borders. Dallewal said in his 2.20-minute message: “Harvest your crop later, you will have it only if you save our protest and your land. Reach Delhi before the court hearing,”

Ravi Azad said: “This appeal is for the farmers of Haryana and Punjab, especially. The BJP governments of the Centre and Haryana can go to any length to harm our struggle.” Farmer unionist Darshan Pal also released a video, calling the protesters back to the Delhi borders.
