Dawood Ibrahim Gang case: NIA granted extension to file chargesheet in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The NIA on Saturday was granted an extension of 90 days to file chargesheet against two accused in the D gang terror funding case. Arif Abubakar Shaikh alias Arif Bhaijan (59) and his brother Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh (51), were arrested in the case in May.

Last week, the NIA moved a plea before the special court seeking the extension. It said that it was a unique case of terror financing and the investigations were spread not just across India but neighbouring countries including Pakistan and UAE. On Thursday, the NIA arrested a third accused, Mohd Salim Iqbal Qureshi alias Salim Fruit, brother-in-law of alleged D-gang member Chhota Shakeel. He is alleged to be the Mumbai-based close associate of underworld don and 1993 Mumbai blasts accused Dawood Ibrahim.

The NIA had alleged that Salim had played an active role in extorting huge amount of money in the name of top Dawood associate Shakeel through property dealings and dispute settlements, to raise terror funds for D company. TNN
