Dawn of the spawn

A female bigfin reef squid, below, is seen with a male squid at a spawning bed in waters off Ito, Shizuoka Prefecture, as the spawning season begins. Divers enjoy seeing eggs being laid on the artificial spawning bed -- made of tree branches -- located 10 meters deep. The spawning can be seen through the end of June.
