- Actor Dawn French has described the “weird” series of events that led to her writing her autobiography, which included a “heartfelt” letter to her ex-husband, Sir Lenny Henry.
- French discussed her autobiography during a conversation with fellow comedian Mo Gilligan on the Beginning, Middle and End podcast.
- She said she was compelled to write the autobiography to reclaim the narrative after a “very bad writer” wrote a biography of her.
- The book took the form of letters, including one to her Sir Lenny, whom she split with in 2010 after more than 25 years of marriage.
- “Some of them were just comedy. Some of them were heartfelt. I wrote to Lenny. I wrote to people that I loved, my beloveds and people that I admired,” she explained.
