Dawgs extend second-longest active bowl streak

After an ugly win against Kentucky under less-than-desirable conditions, the Georgia Bulldogs have secured a bowl appearance for the 22nd consecutive season. It’s the second-longest active bowl streak behind Virginia Tech’s of 26 years (the Hokies earned their fifth win of the season in a multi-overtime thriller against North Carolina, so odds are they’ll make that 27).

The Dawgs have gone 16-7 in postseason competition since a returning bowl appearance in 1997’s Outback Bowl, a tenure that has included one College Football Playoff appearance in 2017.

Though Georgia’s chances of making the 2019 College Football Playoff slimmed after a head-scratching home loss to South Carolina, Bulldog hopes are still alive so long as they can run the table in the season’s final five games preceding the SEC Championship Game on December 7th in Atlanta.

That’s a tall task in a season that concludes with an order of (current) #9 Florida, (current) #22 Missouri, (current) #11 Auburn, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech, but Georgia’s efforts thus far have, at the very least, extended a streak of success rivaled only by a group of rural Virginians whose mascot is a turkey and who wholeheartedly believe “Enter Sandman” is Metallica’s best song.
