Davy Russell mobbed by fans as he enjoys a meal in Kildare after Tiger Roll's Grand National win

Legendary jockey Davy Russell was mobbed by fans as he stopped at a Kildare pub on Sunday for a bite to eat after his Grand National heroics.

Russell rode Tiger Roll to a historic second victory in a row at Aintree on Saturday before joining trainer Gordon Elliot and Ryanair tycoon owner Michael O'Leary for a heroes welcome in Summerhill, Co. Meath.

And Russell wasn't long spotted at the Lock 13 Gastropub in Sallins as delighted diners and staff posed for pictures with the Cork native.

Meanwhile, Tiger Roll is among the early favourites to claim the RTE Sports Personality of the Year - meaning he could become the first horse to land the prestigious accolade.

After landing back-to-back Grand Nationals, the nine-year-old and his Meath trainer Elliot are priced at just 5/1 to take home the award later this year.

Russell himself is an outsider at 16/1, but boxer Katie Taylor leads the way as she strives to become the undisputed World Lightweight Champion later this year - the Bray native is priced at evens.

Golfer Rory McIlroy is at 10/3 after a Players Championship win and any Dublin Senior footballer is at just 4/1 as Jim Gavin's men chase a historic five-in-a-row All-Ireland titles.
