Davy Russell and Gordon Elliott snapped at popular Irish pub in New York ahead of Grand National

Davy Russell and Gordon Elliott have been snapped at popular Irish pub The Westbury in New York as they aim for US Grand National glory.

The pair will travel to Far Hills racecourse in New Jersey and Russell will be aiming for glory on Chose Mate.

And it's not all work and no play for the successful duo as they popped in for a bite to eat in the popular spot.

The Westbury is only a stone's throw away from Grand Central Station and is owned by Cathal Clarke and Johnny Kennedy who also own The Long Hall which is near the Empire State Building and the pair teamed up with impressionist Conor Moore to open the watering hole.

And Russell and Elliott made sure to pop in to say hello.

Elliott took to Twitter to say: Fair play to @sunnysidejohnn1 @Cclarke81 & the crew at the The Westbury NYC for entertaining us this evening on our way to @FarHillsRace @_Davy_Russel_"

“I’m really looking forward to a couple of days in New York. We’re always very welcome over there. It’s nice to be heading off. The prize-money is very good,” said Russell yesterday, after partnering Elliott's Galvin to success in the Grade 3 Irish Daily Star Chase at Punchestown.

“Gordon has won the race before and this is the best ride I’ll ever have in the race. Conditions will really suit him. He’s taking on a few good filles but hopefully he’ll perform well.”
