Davy Fitzgerald suggests that characters are being pushed out of the game after his sending off against Galway

Davy Fitzgerald suggested that characters are being pushed out of the game after he was sent off in Pearse Stadium.

The Wexford boss was furious at a challenge on Damien Reck during his side’s 0-16 each draw with Galway and could be in hot water with disciplinary chiefs for remonstrating with sideline official Mick Murtagh before ref Johnny Murphy sent him to the stand.

Fitzgerald said: “The sideline fella just couldn’t handle that I was so agitated about it. Did I tell him to f-off? I did not, 100% did not.

“But he wasn’t happy that I was out remonstrating about that. Maybe they want to take away any bit of characters in the game altogether, I don’t know.”

In football, Donegal have set up a crunch Ulster semi-final with Tyrone on Saturday week while Laois and Meath will meet in the Leinster semi-final though All-Ireland champions Dublin must wait to learn who their next opponents will be after Longford and Kildare drew.
