INDORE: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya will provide financial assistance of Rs 25 lakhs to candidates for this academic session.
Owing to the pandemic, this year the varsity has received the highest number of applicants for the financial assistance schemes for physically challenged, economically weaker section (EWS) and accident cases in eight years.
This year as many as 244 candidates applied for the financial assistance under the category of physically challenged. The varsity will provide an assistance of over Rs 22 lakh for physically challenged applicants.
This year, around 30 candidates applied under the category of financial constraints and an assistance of Rs 2.60 lakh for them has already been issued. Around Rs 50000 for the accidental cases.
The process of checking the documents attached by the candidates before granting them the amount has already been done and DAVV has already started reimbursement of funds for the EWS and accident cases, soon the varsity will start reimbursement of physically challenged candidates too, DAVV’s dean of students welfare, Dr LK Tripathi told TOI.
“Apart from the fact that many had lost jobs, students are now more aware of the benefits provided by the varsity and which is why the number has increased,” he added.
The varsity gives an assistance of Rs 7500/- per candidate for those students who are 50 per cent or less disabled whereas Rs 10000/- per candidate for those whose disability is more than 50 per cent. The varsity also gives an assistance of Rs 25000 for the financially strained candidates and accidental cases. For some of the special cases the amount goes up to Rs 50000.
In the academic session 2016-17, DAVV had got as many as 200 applicants for financial assistance under the physically challenged category whereas in the academic year 2018-19.
