INDORE: Over 100 faculty members of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya's (DAVV) self-finance university teaching departments (UTDs) staged protest on Wednesday as their monthly salary was not released by the varsity.
There are 121 faculty members, who are working in the self-finance department. They had been expecting their annual hike from their salary in July month. However, the varsity which reimburses salaries on the first day of the month decided to keep the salary withheld.
Since 10:30 am on Wednesday, the faculty members started arriving on the RNT campus from Khandwa Road campus and stayed till late evening, DAVV's Teachers' Association secretary Piyush Kendulkar told TOI.
The faculty members staging the protest on the campus had only one demand that their salaries should be reimbursed on Wednesday along with the expected increment otherwise, they were prepared to celebrate Raksha Bandhan at the varsity, he added.
Later, the members were informed that their salary was withheld due to the letter of the directorate of higher education (DHE) which suggested that the self-finance faculty members are not eligible to avail the benefits of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) under the Exit Scheme, 2006.
"As the high court had stayed the DHE letter already, it is not legal at the end of the varsity to stop our increment or withhold our salary," a faculty member told TOI wishing anonymity.
On the other hand, DAVV's rector Dr Ashok Sharma said that there was an issue in the audit department especially related to the increment, which is taking time in releasing the salary.
