Davina McCall to present Changing Rooms reboot as Scots star Carol Smillie snubbed

Carol Smillie has been given the boot from Changing Rooms as it's revealed Davina McCall will front the reboot.

The former Big Brother host, 52, will step into presenting duties for the new series of the iconic interior design show.

The popular series which originally aired on BBC from 1996 to 2004.

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, who was one of the programme's original interior designer consultants will return.

The premise sees two friends redecorate a room in each other's home, under the guidance of the designers, with a budget of just £500 and two days to do it.

Davina told The Sun of her new role: “I’m so excited to be presenting Changing Rooms. It’s the perfect time to bring it back. Everyone is going DIY and decor-mad!

“I can’t wait to see all the amazing transformations. I might even get stuck in myself if I’m allowed to be let loose with a paint brush.”

Davina being awarded the gig comes after Scots star Carol  - who originally presented the show - revealed in August that she would be keen to work on the cult series again.

Carol told The Sun : "It was definitely the favourite show of my career, without a doubt. It would be the only show I’d come back to telly for."

Speaking about of some of the shocking makeover she revealed: "It was the first time we’d had car-crash telly, when you would be sitting there with a cushion in front of your eyes, saying, 'Oh no!" It was sometimes like watching a disaster in slow motion.

She added: "As a nation, we like to snoop around other people’s houses and that had never been done on TV before."

Carol's job as host was to guide people into their rooms with their eyes closed for the big reveal, said it was often terribly awkward as they stood in silence waiting for a reaction.

One particular reveal sticks out in the presenter's mind, as a sound man had actually trod dog poo into the carpet ahead of the big moment.

Carol, who now works as a humanist wedding celebrant, said while everyone was affected by the "disgusting smell", they had no choice but to carry on filming.
