Davina McCall forced to quit hosting Changing Rooms reboot before filming starts

It's not the news bosses or fans of the show wanted to hear but Davina McCall has reportedly had to step away from hosting the reboot of Changing Rooms.

The 53-year-old had long been expected to take up the hosting duties of the decorating show with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

But it appears as though the coronavirus pandemic has scuppered those plans with The Masked Singer judge having to put her other commitments first.

The much-awaited remake was due to start filming last year but restrictions meant production had to be pushed back twice meaning Davina is no longer available.

An insider told The Sun on Sunday : "Davina was so excited to be part of the reboot but with the changing production schedule, it has become a nightmare.

"The lockdown and pandemic have played havoc with the schedule and sadly Davina has said she won’t be able to commit. It’s the last thing anyone wanted but she is so busy with other filming commitments.

"Everyone on Changing Rooms is gutted as getting Davina on board was a huge coup for the reboot."

The series is set for a six-episode return when filming can get underway. However, the start date is unclear, meaning viewers might have to wait a while yet to see neighbours panicking at each other's risky choices.

The return of Laurence, 56, to the show was announced in December last year.

He had originally been a part of the iconic interior design series between 1996-2004 when it was aired on BBC.

The show, which sees neighbours needing to trust each other to decorate their homes in the ultimate makeover has now moved to Channel 4 for the remake.

Carol Smillie was the first presenter of Changing Rooms (BBC)

Laurence started the show as a designer before taking over the presenting duties from Carol Smillie in 2003.

The Scottish presenter has previously hinted that she would be open to a return to the show as well.

Speaking about his return, Laurence said: "It's taken quite a lot of coaxing to get me under the Changing Rooms banner once more, but nothing like as much coaxing as it's going to take to squeeze those leather trousers back on."
