Davila heroics help Macarthur sink Adelaide in ALM

Mile Sterjovski hailed the never-say-die attitude of his Macarthur side as they kept their unbeaten start to the A-League Men season alive with a seesawing 4-3 win over Adelaide.

The Bulls looked to be heading for a certain defeat when they trailed the Reds with 10 minutes to go at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Monday.

But rising midfield star Jake Hollman drew them level before captain Ulises Davila sealed the winner to leave Adelaide boss Carl Veart fuming as the Bulls extended their unbeaten start to six games.

"The mentality is very strong among the boys and we've got good depth," said Sterjovski, whose side head to face Sydney FC on Saturday.

"I thought the boys who came on today changed the game for us.

"We were 3-2 and to get back to 3-3 and then get the winner and hold on for the win, that's something.

"We haven't really done that before and we can build on that and take confidence away from it."

Macarthur were quickest out the blocks on Monday with French striker Valere Germain glancing a Clayton Lewis free-kick past Joe Gauci after eight minutes.

But Adelaide hit back soon afterwards when Zach Clough turned in a Nestory Irankudna cross

Davila was pulling the strings in the midfield and was able to play Matt Millar in on goal.

Typically a wing-back, Millar has found his calling further up the pitch under Sterjovski and buried the ball past Gauci for his third straight goal in as many A-League Men starts.

Davila had the chance to give Macarthur a third before halftime but he was only able to guide a close-range header into Gauci's arms.

Giuseppe Bovalina headed the Reds level late in the half before Clough added his second soon after the halftime break.

Macarthur struggled for a breakthrough but substitute Hollman was able to guide an 82nd minute effort past Gauci to pull the home side level.

Davila poked in a few minutes later to snatch an unlikely victory as Veart was left to bemoan his side's sloppy defending.

"I'm very disappointed we were too passive most of the night defensively," Veart said.

"We had some good moments at times, but overall the game was just far too inconsistent and we made far too many errors.

"We turned balls over and made it very difficult for ourselves all night."
