Davie Provan claims Rangers trust issues as he insists Steven Gerrard still lacks title faith

Davie Provan reckons Steven Gerrard will not yet trust his Rangers stars to stop Ten In A Row.

The former Celtic star insists the Ibrox side look a "far superior" outfit to their Glasgow rivals but has concerns over staying power.

Rangers imploded following victory at Celtic Park in 2019 as Neil Lennon 's men pulled well clear before the season was declared over.

Provan believes Gerrard was lucky to keep his job and, despite another decisive derby victory at the weekend.

And he claims the manager won't have complete faith his squad can win the title.

The pundit told Go Radio: "Steven Gerrard himself will not quite be able to trust this team yet, not after the collapse of last season.

"The money would've been on Rangers to win the league after they won at Celtic Park last season.

"They collapsed. Totally collapsed.

"Steven Gerrard will have that at the back of his mind every time they go on the pitch.

"He will be thinking back to last season: 'Are we going to do this again? Are we going to fold again?'

"It's got to be at the back of his mind.

"Steven Gerrard would've been under serious pressure (at the end of last season).

"I think he might've been fortunate to keep his job because Celtic were going to increase the gap.

"It would've ended up an embarrassing gap and it would've put the spotlight on Gerrard.

"But, to be fair to him, they've started this season well.

"Crucially, they're not losing goals. And they looked a far superior side at the weekend."
