Davie Farrell believes he wasn't fully trusted to play for Hibs against Celtic

Former Hibs defender Davie Farrell suspects his old boss didn’t full trust him in matches against Celtic.

Farrell started his professional career at Easter Road, playing for Hibs between 1988 and 1995, although often found himself featuring for the reserves.

A self-confessed Celtic fan, Farrell has never hidden his fondness for the team he supported as a boy, but believes that counted against him when Alex Miller’s team were due to face the Hoops on a Saturday.

Since leaving his role as St Mirren assistant manager, the former defender has gone back to going to watch Celtic at home abroad alongside his son.

In a blog post focusing on the debate around strict liability, Farrell admitted his love for Celtic possibly counted against him when his boss came to picking teams to play the Glasgow club.

Kieran Power elected to Hibs board as new supporters' representative

“Even through my playing and coaching days, I still took the opportunity to go and see Celtic whenever I could, sometimes to the ridiculous extent that I could even play against them one week and be a guest on the supporters bus the next,” he said.

“I’m still convinced that my old manager at Hibs – Alex Miller – didn’t trust me to give as much against Celtic as he did in Rangers games and Edinburgh derbies.

“I had a good spell in the early 90’s where I made the squad most weeks, and yet I rarely seemed to pit my wits against my heroes.

“He really should have known better. I’d have kicked my Granny, two-footed my sister and trampled over our elderly neighbour no matter what colour of shirt they had worn for a £300 win bonus.”
