Carlo Ancelotti’s son and former Everton assistant manager Davide Ancelotti thanked Blues fans as his father returned to work in his second stint in charge of Real Madrid.
Ancelotti senior shocked stunned Everton at the start of this month when he walked out on the club with three years remaining on his lucrative contract at Goodison Park.
Having become an instant fans’ favourite with Blues following his appointment on a four-and-a-half year deal in December 2019, inspiring terrace anthem ‘Carlo Fantastico, Carlo Magnifico’ – the kind of honour never bestowed on predecessors Marco Silva, Sam Allardyce or Ronald Koeman – the Italian had publicly declared his commitment to the project and intentions to stay on at the club beyond his current contract and steer them into their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in the 2024/25 season.

However, the three-times Champions League-winning boss quit for Real Madrid on June 1, leaving Farhad Moshiri to look for a new manager, a search that has now continued into a fourth week.
Ancelotti, 62, took to social media on Monday night with the message “Back to work” to his 2.4million Twitter followers with the hashtag ‘Hala Madrid’ and an accompanying photograph of him entering through the glass doors of the club’s Valdebebas training ground.
Meanwhile, his son Davide, 31, who served as Ancelotti’s assistant alongside Duncan Ferguson during their 18-month tenure on Merseyside, issued a Twitter message of “Special Club. Amazing fans. Yank (sic) you EFC. Toffee for ever.”
