David Wotherspoon breathes St Johnstone Betfred Cup final sigh of relief but Murray Davidson faces fitness battle

David Wotherspoon was has been given the all-clear to face Livingston in Sunday's Betfred Cup final as team-mate Murray Davidson battles to avoid a second showpiece heartache.

Midfielder Davidson, who missed Saints' Scottish Cup triumph in 2014 through injury, is facing a last minute call on the calf knock picked up against Rangers at the start of the month.

Wotherspoon limped off after an hour in Saturday's 3-0 win over Motherwell but boss Callum Davidson confirmed that the Canadian international trained today as is available to face Livingston at Hampden.

He said on Thursday: "Spoony (Wotherspoon) is fine.

"Muzz is probably now 50-50. He just had a tiny bit of a setback on Monday so we’ll need to see how he is tomorrow.

"He is close but we’re just not sure how close he is. That’s the only downside to this week.

"We will wait and see how he is.

"We knew we would have  to push him hard for this Sunday so we’ll give him every chance to be available."
