David Warner IPL snub before T20 World Cup and Ashes "must be for non-cricketing reason"

David Warner 's IPL looks to have come to a premature end, after the Australia opener was dropped by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Warner made just two appearances for the franchise in the second leg of the tournament before getting axed.

And he appeared to confirm that he would not play for the Sunrisers again when responding to a fan on Instagram who encouraged him to take a rest before returning to the team.

"Unfortunately won’t be again, but please keep supporting," Warner wrote in response.

As a result of his axing, Warner will head into the T20 World Cup and the Ashes severely undercooked.

The 34-year-old has played just two games of cricket since April, scoring a total of just two runs in six balls.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has claimed that Warner's omission is down to a "non-cricketing reason".

"David Warner's numbers over the last few years have been mind-boggling," Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo.

"He is arguably the best IPL batter we have seen in terms of longevity of a player. The failure patch hasn't been for that long for Warner to get dropped on batting form.

"So it has to be a non-cricketing reason, and we have no idea what that is."

Kevin Pietersen has also claimed that "there are clearly things happening behind the scenes" which have led to Warner getting axed.

Speaking to Betway, Pietersen said: "David Warner just is Sunrisers Hyderabad, so it’s disheartening to see his love affair with the franchise unravelling like this.

"He has scored so many runs for them over the years, captained them to the title, and has been at the heart and soul of everything that they do.

"He looks totally disillusioned now, and there are clearly things happening behind the scenes that we don’t know about."

When asked whether Warner's time at the Sunrisers could be over, head coach Trevor Bayliss said: "This is the last year before a major auction. Those decisions will be made further down the line.

"He has been a great contributor to Hyderabad Sunrisers for a number for a number of years now.

"He is very well respected with the amount of runs he has scored. I am sure he has got a lot more runs in him yet in the IPL."
