David Walliams joins Masked Dancer panel as show replaces Britain's Got Talent

David Walliams has revealed that he's joined the Masked Dancer panel as a guest judge while the new show replaces Britain's Got Talent in ITV's schedule.

Bosses were forced to cancel BGT as it was too difficult to conduct auditions during the pandemic.

Appearing on Lorraine, David was probed on fan theories suggesting that he was the Blob on this year's Masked Dancer, which turned out to be Lenny Henry.

"I actually can't sing so I'm very unlikely to be the Masked Singer," he said. "But I guess Lenny's a similar height to me, he might actually be taller than me.

"He's a really good singer - he's a properly talented person. But I did do the Masked Dancer as a guest judge, so I'm not giving anything away because I can't dance or sing. Not much I can do!

"I did it as a guest judge and it was really, really fun, actually. Such a lovely show. I think it's on at half term when Britain's Got Talent would normally be because we've got no series of Britain's Got Talent this year."

This comes after The Mirror revealed that producers at Thames TV and Cowell’s company Syco, which make the programme, reluctantly conceded there are no guarantees the hit series would be made safely in a few months’ time.

A source said at the time: "The nature of Britain’s Got Talent means we have all sorts of contestants from all sorts of places – home and abroad - taking part.

"While many people will have been vaccinated by the summer it remains unclear what the restrictions on mass mingling and on travel will be, so there are absolutely no guarantees production can go ahead.

"The chances of it airing this year range from extremely slim to non-existent - and it’s almost certain to be the latter. No one’s happy about it – but that’s the way it is.”

Meanwhile, Strictly pro Oti Mabuse will join Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan on the Masked Dancer panel this year.

*Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
