David Walliams donates £5,000 to Barbara Windsor’s battle against dementia

Barbara Windsor’s fight against dementia has netted a £5,000 boost from David Walliams– after our touching report about her illness.

The BGT judge made the donation to Babs’ husband Scott Mitchell, who is running the London Marathon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Last week Scott told the Sunday Mirror how the much-loved star’s condition had worsened lately.

Soon after our article appeared David, 48, donated the cash and said on Scott’s fundraising page: “Dearest darling Scott, You are a legend. I’m sending all my love to you and the Dame. David x.”

Scott, 57, who has been with Babs for 26 years, had revealed that she forgets who he is, asks for her late mum Rose and at times thinks she is back living in her parent’s house.

But the Carry On and EastEnders legend has kept a “wonderful” sense of humour and they still share a laugh watching her old shows. Babs and Scott are both Alzheimer’s Society ambassadors and fight to raise awareness about the disease.

On Friday, Barbara, 82, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, made a rare TV appearance at Good Morning Britain’s One Million Minutes Awards.

She had recorded a poignant video message for Danny Brown, 76, the first winner of the Dame Barbara Windsor Award.

Danny has vascular dementia but devotes his life to volunteer work.
