David Vanecek scores for Hearts reserves in win over Kilmarnock

David Vanecek was on target for Hearts reserves as they ran out 5-0 winners over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The Czech striker has rarely featured for Craig Levein’s first team, with the Hearts manager saying he needs to get himself fit and start afresh this summer in a bid to impress after a disappointing start to his Tynecastle career.

The former FK Teplice forward has been making progress on his fitness, and netted against Killie’s second string just days after becoming a father for the first time at the weekend.

Andy Kirk’s team got off to a good start when captain Chris Hamilton stopped to head home a Connor Smith cross at the back post after just ten minutes.

They doubled their lead from the spot on 24 minutes after Callumn Morrison was wiped out in the box after being set up by Vanecek.

The winger picked himself up to score and double Hearts’ advantage.

He then returned the favour and teed up Vanecek ten minutes before the break. Morrison got in behind the Killie defence and sent a low cross to the back post, which Vanecek finished from a narrow angle.

Morrison made it a brace with just under 20 minutes to go when he found the top corner following a great ball to him from goalkeeper Kevin Silva.

Lewis Moore scored a fine fifth just five minutes from time, curling home after Ewan Henderson had found him with a backheel.

Hearts: Silva, Logan, Hickey, Hamilton, Morrison, Cochrane, Irving, Edwards, Smith, Vanecek. Subs: Mason Henderson, Baur, Sandison, Moore, Ritchie.

Kilmarnock: Mackay; Barr, Barlow, Lynch, Deveney, Higgins, Brindley, Frizzell, McDonald, Monk, Scally Subs: Miller, A.Taylor, Walker, Shields, McCracken.
