David Turnbull transfer twist as Norwich have bid accepted after Celtic walk away

Norwich have had a bid for David Turnbull accepted by Motherwell as the midfielder closes in on switch to Premier League.

Celtic pulled the plug on their pursuit of 19-year-old after refusing to meet the player's wage demands and he now looks set for a move to Carrow Road.

Record Sport understands the Scotland U21 will travel south on Wednesday to discuss terms with Daniel Farke's side.

Parkhead chiefs had already agreed a £3.25million fee with Well and hoped the player’s agent would have a change of heart after issuing a take-it-or-leave it ultimatum last Friday over a four-year contract worth an initial ten grand per week.

Turnbull’s representative insisted his charge could get more down south but also wanted certain assurances over first team opportunities with Celtic .

But Record Sport understands neither party are willing to budge – forcing the Hoops to officially withdraw their interest and move on to other targets.

West Brom midfielder Rekeem Harper remains high up on their wishlist but hopes of landing Turnbull are now dead in the water.

Both parties were back around the table on Tuesday but neither were conceding enough ground to keep the deal alive.

Turnbull’s camp insisted the move was not just about cash but the player wanted guarantees of regular football which could not be given.

Celtic were prepared to make the youngster the highest paid teenager at the club with scope for contract bumps down the line but grew increasingly concerned with the midfielder’s reluctance to commit to the move and now Norwich have moved to the front of the queue.
