David Turnbull’s Celtic transfer could be OFF as agents hawk Motherwell star round England

David Turnbull’s move to Celtic could be OFF after the Motherwell midfielder rejected a bumper deal at Parkhead.

The Premiership champions had a £3million bid accepted by the Fir Park side on Wednesday and hoped to get the switch over the line today.

But Record Sport can reveal the 19-year-old’s representatives have turned down a lucrative contract offer and are now touting the youngster to clubs in England.

Celtic chiefs are furious with the player’s agent but insist they will not be used as a bargaining tool for a move down south.

Turnbull is currently on holiday and, contrary to reports, has not been back in Glasgow for a medical but the deal is now in real danger of collapse.

A source close to the deal told Record Sport the player has been made a "significant offer in line with the club’s wage structure".

They see the deal on the table as more than fair for a player of his age and potential and who has only played one season in the Premiership but recognise the youngster’s huge potential.

But Parkhead chiefs have been left fuming at Turnbull’s agent as they believe his charge is now being touted to clubs in England.

It is understood Motherwell have not yet received a bid to match Celtic’s £3m on offer – with £250,000 in add-ons – and the Hoops are not prepared to budge.

Celts were left smarting last season when John McGinn opted to sign for Aston Villa after the champions matched their £2.5m bid but sources at the club insist the circumstances are completely different regarding Turnbull.
