David Turnbull's Celtic switch OFF as Hoops pull the plug on move for Motherwell star

Celtic have walked away from the deal to sign David Turnbull from Motherwell.

The Hoops agreed a £3million fee with the Steelmen to take the 19-year-old to Glasgow last week before the Premiership champions launched a stinging social media blast on Friday as the player and his representatives stalled over the deal.

Reports over the past 24 hours suggested the transfer was back on, but Celtic have exited the negotiations and will not be signing the Scotland U21 international.

Sheffield Wednesday are also said to be keen on the player with the player's representatives exploring opportunities south of the border for the the 15-goal star.

Celtic had stated the midfielder had been made a "magnificent offer" to join the Premiership champions.

They said: “Celtic was pleased to agree a record-breaking fee with Motherwell FC and we have quickly followed this up with a fantastic offer to the player through his agent.

“Currently, we have been unable to come to an agreement with the player’s agent. Celtic is content that it has made a magnificent offer and it is now up to the agent and player to decide if the player wants to join Celtic. If not, we move on.”
