David Turnbull returns positive Covid test as Celtic star forced into isolation after international duty

Celtic have confirmed the news that David Turnbull has tested positive for Covid-19 after international duty.

The summer signing will be forced to self-isolate for 10 days as he waits on his Hoops career to get going after a stop/start beginning to life in Glasgow.

The former Motherwell start was away with Scotland U21s as they missed out on qualification for the Euros and tested positive on his return to Celtic.

He's one of three players to test positive, with Rangers' Robby McCrorie and an unnamed Aberdeen player also contracting the virus.

A further eight players have been forced to isolate as close contacts of the three players, although it's unclear who that is.

A Celtic statement on twitter said: Following David Turnbull's return from international duty, we can confirm that David has tested positive for COVID-19. He will be required to self-isolate for 10 days and will receive every support from the club. Get well soon, @10DavidTurnbull."

Earlier, the SFA said: "Following the return of the Scotland Under 21s squad on Wednesday, the Scottish FA has been informed that three players have since tested positive for COVID-19 during their routine pre-match testing at their respective clubs.

"A meeting involving the Scottish Government’s COVID experts took place this morning and after reviewing all relevant information from the Under-21 Team Manager and COVID officer, they identified a further eight players and two staff members considered to be close contacts.

"As a result, the three positive cases will require to self-isolate for 10 days from November 20, and the 10 close contacts to self-isolate for 14 days from November 20.

"The close contacts were established using aircraft and bus manifests, in adherence to government protocols that consider close contacts to be two rows either side of a positive case.

"We have informed all clubs affected by the positive cases or close contacts in advance of matches taking place this weekend."
