David Turnbull pens new Motherwell deal as Celtic target in show of faith after injury hell

Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull has signed a one-year extension to his Fir Park contract - following an aborted £3m move to Celtic in the summer.

The rising star had agreed a deal to move to Parkhead over the summer but it fell through after a pre-existing knee problem was discovered in his medical.

Motherwell and Celtic couldn't agree terms on a restructured deal and Turnbull remained in Lanarkshire.

He had surgery on that knee issue over the summer and made his return to first team action on February 25 in a 2-1 defeat to St Mirren .

And now the 20-year-old has signed a one-year extension to his current deal, tying him down until 2022.

Turnbull said: "As soon as I knew I was back, fit and ready to get some game time, I wanted to make sure my contract was sorted.

"I have been here a long time. I feel as if I owe the club and the supporters for the way I have been looked after and treated.

“I’ve missed most of this season, so this puts us back to pretty much where we were at this stage last year in terms of my deal, giving the club a little more protection as I was coming into the last year of my contract.

“All my focus now is on spending the next few weeks getting up to full fitness, get back to just playing and enjoying playing football for Motherwell .”
