David Turnbull opens Motherwell contract talks as Stephen Robinson provides injury update

Stephen Robinson has revealed Motherwell have opened contract talks with David Turnbull.

The midfielder has been sidelined this season after a knee operation following his collapsed £3.25million move to Celtic last summer.

But, along with fellow absentee Charles Dunne, the 20-year-old stepped up his rehab during Well’s winter training camp. Turnbull is tied up until the end of next season after a new deal last January.

But boss Robinson, whose side face Dundee in the fourth round, said: “We’re speaking to David and his representatives.

"We want David at the club for as long as we possibly can. But I don’t know where they are, I don’t get involved in the discussion.

“David and Charles are starting to come back into it. They are not close to this game. We took them to Tenerife and it was nice to see them on the pitch again.

“That was the first time David’s been on the pitch and in amongst the boys’ environment again.”

The Motherwell boss hopes to have Dunne available within two or three weeks, while the club are in talks with striker Chris Long about staying beyond the summer.

Robinson expects Mikael Ndjoli to be their last arrival of the window and the Bournemouth loan striker said: “The gaffer lets me express myself and I feel that’s what I need.”
