David Turnbull on Scott Brown 'mentor role' as Celtic star prepares for Hamilton Accies

David Turnbull has revealed the role Celtic skipper Scott Brown has played in helping him hit the heights at Parkhead.

Since his move from Motherwell at the start of the season, the Wishaw native has had to wait for his chance to become a regular first team player.

But now he is one of the first names on the team sheet, having hit a rich vein of form in recent weeks scoring in three games on the trot over the festive period and netting in a 1-1 draw with Hibs earlier this month.

The Premiership Player of the Month for December also has three assists in his 16 league outings for the Hoops and the midfielder admits he's flourished under the stewardship of Brown, who has been in and out of the squad of late and picked up a red card in last week's 1-1 draw at Livingston.

Speaking to Celtic's media team, Turnbull said: "Since I came in, Scott Brown has been brilliant with me, having a laugh off the pitch and giving me pointers and tips here and there on the pitch.

“It’s helped me a lot.

"Even when I wasn’t playing he was telling me to bide my time.

"He’s since been willing me on and supporting me, and I think he’s got a big part to play [in the rest of the season]."

The 21-year-old is keen to get back to winning ways as Celtic trail runaway leaders Rangers by 23 points at the top of the Premiership table.

Celtic have three games in hand and host bottom of the table Hamilton Accies tomorrow night aiming to end a four-game winless streak, which includes back-to-back draws with Livingston.

Turnbull added: “We’ve not had a game for a week, so we’ve been training and looking to improve.

"We were in at Lennoxtown on Saturday and Sunday with no game, so we’ve been working towards the game tomorrow.

“In terms of preparation, the staff and the manager show us clips from previous games, and we try to take that onto the training ground – set pieces, attacking play, defensive shape, that kind of thing."
