David Turnbull given £3million valuation as Celtic enquire over Motherwell star

Motherwell have stuck a £3million-plus price tag on the head of young player of the year David Turnbull.

Record Sport understands Celtic and Bristol City have both enquired how much it will take to land Fir Park’s prize asset. The midfielder ripped things up in claret and amber this season, scoring 16 goals and lifting the Scottish Football Writers’ Association young player of the year award.

Interest is growing in Turnbull, 19, but Well have made it clear he will only be sold if there is a
significant bid – that dwarfs the transfer record of £1.75m they received from Celtic for Phil O’Donnell in 1994.

The Steelmen are looking for a deal of at least £2.5m up front with more than £500,000 in achievable add-ons.

Chief executive Alan Burrows tweeted: “Getting some questions re David Turnbull. I try not to reply to speculation (for obvious reasons) but to reiterate ...

“We will only consider offers of significantly more than our record fee received.”

Turnbull signed a new contract last season and still has another two seasons left to run.

Premier League sides Burnley, Brighton and Southampton have also been tracking him.

New Brighton boss Graham Potter was a fan when he was at Swansea and is weighing whether or not Turnbull can step up to the English top flight.
