David Turnbull faces Celtic suspension sweat for final Rangers clash as outcome hinges on Willie Collum admission

Celtic's David Turnbull is facing an Old Firm sweat as he waits to discover if he’ll be dragged up in front of the Hampden beaks for his swipe at Dylan McGeouch.

A notice of complaint could land on Friday but Record Sport understands Turnbull is unlikely to face more punishment unless there are ‘exceptional circumstances’ that prevented the whistler from witnessing the entire incident.

The Hoops midfielder was yellow carded on the night by referee Willie Collum after being caught lashing out at the Aberdeen man in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

The whistler was just a few feet away from the incident and decided against sending the 21-year-old packing.

The SFA can go back and upgrade yellow cards to reds – but only if the official admits didn’t get a clear view.

Rival fans have pointed to the Alfredo Morelos ban after he was yellow carded for a clash with Dundee United’s Mark Connolly.

But the Rangers ace’s punishment was upgraded after it was revealed official Steven McLean didn’t see the striker following through with a forearm.

Celtic are confident Collum had control of the Dons flashpoint and the youngster won’t be forced to sit out next week’s final Old Firm game of the season at Ibrox.

Meanwhile Patryk Klimala has sealed his Celtic exit after penning a four year deal at MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.

The Hoops managed to turn a profit on the £3.5m signing from Jagiellonia Bialystok last January despite the Poland Under-21 ace struggling to make an impact in Scotland.

Red Bulls head of sport Kevin Thelwell said: “We’re delighted to complete this deal and welcome Patryk to our club. Patryk is a talented young forward who has proven that he can score goals and create in a variety of ways.

“We believe he has the ability to impact games in MLS now, and the potential to continue to grow and succeed in years to come. We look forward to welcoming him to New York and getting him acclimated to our club.”

New York head coach Gerhard Struber is convinced the front man can shine in the United States.

He said: “I’m very happy with Patryk’s decision to join us.

“At both the club and youth international level he has shown that he has high potential. He demonstrates a strong work ethic against the ball, which is very important to our style of play, and has very good instincts around the goal.

“His movement and ability in the final third give the team another weapon.”
