David Turnbull 'eyed' by Celtic as Neil Lennon ready to battle Brighton for £1.2million-rated star

Celtic are targeting a move for Motherwell rising star David Turnbull - according to a report.

Neil Lennon is looking to make an instant impact after landing the Parkhead job for keeps is keen to bring the attacking midfielder to Parkhead.

The 19-year-old impressed onlookers last season with his stirring displays for the Fir Park side. Turnbull netted 16 goals in all competitions en route to winning the Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year.

The Fir Park academy graduate has earned rave reviews, with pundit Michael Stewart likening him to former Germany and Chelsea star Michael Ballack.

But Celtic face competition with Brighton also believed to be keen in taking the the Scotland U21 star to the Premier League.

New boss Graham Potter is a fan of the £1.2million-rated star and kept close tabs on him while he was in charge at Swansea, report the Daily Mail. Motherwell are yet to receive any concrete interest in the player.

Lennon is also believed to eyeing a move for impending Charlton free agent Joe Aribo as Celtic look to get their business done ahead with Champions League qualifiers coming thick and fast at the start of next season.
