David Turnbull details Celtic confidence boost as he opens up on Scotland hopes

Celtic star David Turnbull admits winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Award has given him a further confidence boost ahead of the new season.

And he's targeting a clean sweep of titles and trophies as well as more individual awards next season after a successful first season at Celtic on a personal basis.

While the Hoops struggled in every competition they played this season, Turnbull was a rare bright spark and was voted the young player of the year by his fellow pros.

And he was full of thanks for his team-mates as he admitted that getting the credit from his fellow players is a huge honour because they've recognised his ability.

Turnbull struggled for game time at Celtic Park in the initial stages after his move but insists he has been full of confidence ever since getting his opportunity.

He said: “It feels brilliant. The amount of great players that are in the league and the great young players that are nominated it was going to be a tough ask but I’m delighted to win it.

“It does. Them voting for you is what all players like to hear. Playing against them and them seeing what I’ve contributing and every one of them voting for me, I can’t thank them enough.

“It’s been a tough season as everybody knows, but personally winning these awards it’s a great feeling and it gives you extra confidence going into next season and trying to do more for the team and pick up more individuals.

“It’s going great. Ever since I started playing I had the confidence in myself to go and put my mark on games. At Motherwell I was nominated for these awards so to go and do it this season is a great feeling."

Turnbull could be named in the Scotland squad for the Euros when Steve Clarke announces it tomorrow, but while he admits he would love the chance - he insists he'll respect any decision that is made.

He added: “That’ll be announced shortly so I’m looking forward to seeing what my chances are and what the script is but whatever happens, you have to respect the manager’s decision and my fingers are crossed.

“It’s a dream for every young boy growing up with how big of an opportunity is to go and play for your country. To go and be able to do that would be amazing for me and all my family.”
