David Turnbull Celtic scouting mission as Nicky Hammond 'watches' Motherwell star on comeback trail

Celtic could be set to step up their interest in David Turnbull again.

The Premiership champions had the Motherwell midfielder watched during a closed door friendly with Kilmarnock on Friday, according to a report.

A £3million move for the youngster collapsed last summer after a medical flagged up a potentially serious knee issue.

Turnbull spent much of last season on the sidelines after undergoing preventative surgery but has since returned to Stephen Robinson's first-team.

The Daily Mail state Celtic's head of recruitment Nicky Hammond cast an eye over the 21-year-old during the 3-2 defeat to Killie at Fir Park.

Record Sport told earlier in July how Parkhead boss Neil Lennon's remains keen on Turnbull, but with the transfer window being extended in October, would prefer to monitor his form when competitive action returns.

But we also revealed Stoke City have entered the running to sign the Scotland U-21 international.

It's understood Motherwell have been made aware of the interest from down south, with Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce also among Turnbull's lengthy list of admirers.
